Is Turmeric in Soap Beneficial?
Is turmeric in soap really all that beneficial to my skin? Will it lighten my skin and remove dark patches? Will it really help to clear my acne? Will my skin be brighter after using turmeric soap?
Turmeric soap can assist in removing dark spots, making your skin appear lighter, brightening your skin and for treating acne, eczema, and other skin problems. However, it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It does take time and some condition should also first be discussed with your medical practitioner.
How do they add turmeric to soap?
In the soap-making process, soap is created by reacting fats or oils with lye. This reaction, known as saponification, results in the formation of soap. During this process, the mixture is in a liquid state, and the turmeric powder is then added at the appropriate percentage.
Turmeric powder is a fine yellow powder that is best known as a spice used predominantly in Eastern cuisine. It has also been used in ayurvedic medicine for centuries due to its amazing properties, which include:
- Anti-inflammatory
- Antibacterial
- Skin Brightening
- Hormonal balancing
- Treating of skin disorders
Once the turmeric powder is thoroughly infused into the soap the soap is placed into molds and cut to the required shape and size.
It’s important to understand that not all turmeric soaps are alike. Some contain additional ingredients, such as laurel, that enhance their effectiveness. Additionally, the type of soap base used can influence how well the turmeric works in the formulation. Try to choose a natural soap that has no harsh chemicals included in its ingredients.
Turmeric Soap to Treat Acne and Eczema

Although I have lumped these 2 together, they are completely different conditions and should be treated differently.
Acne is usually caused by excess sebum production, which clogs pores and results in outbreaks. Turmeric soap helps reduce inflammation, eliminate bacteria, regulate sebum production, and effectively treat acne. More information
Eczema is an irritating rash that is often triggered by perfumes, fragrances, chemicals, etc. These very same triggers can be found in some common soaps that also contain turmeric. As a result, certain soaps with turmeric could actually aggravate the eczema. You should carefully study the ingredients of the soap prior to using it to ensure that no extra chemicals or fragrances are included that could possibly act as a trigger to eczema.
Turmeric Soap to Remove Dark Spots and Lighten Skin

Dark spots on your face, underarms, groin, knees, and elbows are often a sign of a condition called Acanthosis Nigricans. This is a warning that there is an underlying health condition that needs attention. This could be a hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, or prediabetes.
Turmeric in soap can help treat and lighten dark patches over time. However, I advise seeking medical advice to determine the cause of these dark spots.
Turmeric in soap also acts as an exfoliator as well as an optical brightener, and so after use, your skin will glow and appear lighter.

Jenn from Lonehil says:
I recently tried the Turmeric Soap for my 14 year old daughter, and I’m beyond impressed with the results! After struggling with acne-related inflammation for a while, we were looking for a gentle, natural solution to calm her skin and this soap exceeded my expectations! Within a few days we could see a reduction in redness and her skin was less irritated. Over time her break puts have started to fade and her skin is glowing!! Highly recommend!
